The End of an Era

All good things must come to an end. Mitigating these sad endings are the prospects of a happier, better beginning.

On Friday, June 24th, I went home from Curtis Marketing Group for the last time. After over four years of employment for Mark and Susan, the time had come for me to move on. Two weeks prior, I accepted a Web Site Producer position on the Travel Technology Team at BI, a very large firm located in Edina, MN.

Lots of CSS Updates

Posted on 18th June, 2005 at 6:40pm by joel

I made a whole pile of CSS updates to the site this afternoon, most—but not all—of which were to the “capri” theme. If you see anything funky that a refresh doesn’t fix, post about it quick-like in the comments and let me know. Thanks much!

An Undertaking of Biblical Proportions

The Saint John’s Bible is going to be one of the most spectacular artistic and spiritual works ever created when it is finished. The Minneapolis Institute of Arts is showing the in-progress piece and had a special CSB|SJU Alumnae/i event on Thursday.

Every once in a while, I encounter a piece of art that makes me gasp in amazement and stand transfixed by the incredible beauty and unbelievable skill necessary to create such a work. This happens a lot when I visit the Minneapolis Institute of Arts (MIA), but I have never been so amazed as I was on Thursday evening while taking in the “Illuminating the Word” exhibit. Allow me to explain.

This is NOT a LiveJournal

Posted on 7th June, 2005 at 11:56pm by joel

No, this doesn’t mean that I am going to turn this site into a whine-fest about my [lack of] love life, job, whatever and move over to LiveJournal. However, it seems that at some point in time, every blogger does one of those “what kind of {insert random not-really-humorous category of person here} are you” posts with the cute little stupid image showing off the results. That said…

…I am apparently Andy Budd.

You are Andy Budd

I’ve got a wicked awful British accent I’ve been known to bring out on occasion. Perhaps this is a sign…hey Andy, are there any jobs in Brighton for a silly American web designer with little or no blog readership?

Life: Inverted

Posted on 1st June, 2005 at 8:07pm by joel

Life: Inverted
a not-poem

one year ago today
my life was turned
upside-down and inside-out
a conversation I will never forget

some moments
we want not to remember
they are the times of our lives
which are impossible to lay to rest

painful
depressed

healing
empowerment

Explore Minnesota

Posted on 31st May, 2005 at 11:33pm by joel

headline image for “Explore Minnesota”Lovely evening for a campfire, no?

I just had an amazing Memorial Day weekend traveling about the Great State of the North. Here it is, presented in convenient list form.

Agenda for the Weekend

Yes, this is terribly off-topic and has nothing to do with the web or design or anything remotely artistic. However, after five days of traveling all across the southern half of Minnesota, something has to be said.

Without further ado, here’s a short collection of things that had to happen this weekend in more or less random order:

  • See Chris and Amanda who’d flown from Germany for…
  • …Matt and Laura’s wedding, in which I was a groomsman
  • Deliver approximately 4000 stuffed envelopes to the mail house for a client’s mailing
  • Go to Grandma and Grandpa’s farm with my brother for the holiday
  • Stay out of trouble
